| dc.description.abstract | The purpose of this study was to investigate the socio-economic factors influencing relief dependency among households in Dujis Constituency in Garissa district. The research project explored global, African and Kenyan socio-economic factors influencing relief dependency among households. It tried to examine factors contributing to relief dependency, main types of relief assistance, and the role of aid agencies and government in addressing socio-economic factors that influencing dependency of relief aids. Purposive sampling procedure was used to select the area of study, aid agency representatives, as well as the chiefs.
Two instruments were used to collect data, which included an interview schedule for aid agencies officers. The researcher developed questionnaire for the chief and another one for household heads to collect data pertaining to the socio-economic factors influencing relief dependency. Instruments were validated and expert judgement. The reliability was determined using test retest method, value was 0.8. One aid agency representative, 3 chiefs and 5 household heads were involved in the pilot study.
The instruments were subjected to analysis by a team of experts in the field of study including the researcher's supervisor the actual data collected took place. The researcher observed all the ethical issues and considerations by obtaining a permit form the relevant authorities to allow him collect data in the area of concern. The data collected was analysed using descriptive statistics by applying Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS).
Data was presented by use of frequency tables, graphs and pie charts. The finding of the study may be of practical value to the relevant stakeholders in minimizing of relief dependency and enhancement of self-imitative and self - dependency through involvement in income-generating activities geared towards socio-economic development of relief aid dependants. | en_US |
