| dc.description.abstract | Free Primary Education Programme (FPE) is the brainchild of the United Nations millennium development goals, one which revolves around education for all. FPE Underscores the need to enhance access to education for all, but in many instances it falls short of specifically responding to barriers and challenges. For instance, the high cost of implementing FPE has made the progress towards this goal calling for the involvement of stakeholders in the financing of this programme. This study was therefore designed to examine the role of stakeholders in the financing of FPE programme in Kenyan public primary schools in Nandi South District, Kenya.
The objectives of the study were to Identify the types of FPE projects stakeholders finance, establish the criteria for stakeholder financing of FPE programme, determine the challenges associated with stakeholder financing of FPE and determine strategies for effective stakeholder involvement in fmancing of FPE. The study targeted public primary schools, SMC members, teachers, parents, Non-Governmental Organizations, Churches and fmancial institutions in Nandi South District of Kenya.
A sample of 134 respondents was drawn from over 123 primary schools in the District. The study adopted ex post facto research design where data was collected using questionnaires. Piloting of research instruments was done in two primary schools, namely Kobujoi and Chebara by distributing 10 questionriaires to these schools to ensure the accuracy of the subsequent data.
The study found out that stakeholders were keen to provide physical, material and fmancial support to schools even though they tend to withdraw from this as years progress. The study therefore recommends that, the gpvernment should formulate policies.that will govern financing of FPE programme. A board of trustees which will regulate and supervise stakeholders contribution to the fund aimed at supplementing the government efforts should be put in place. It is therefore hoped the findings of this study will assist the government in formulating FPE policies that would benefit all' the stakeholders by enhancing team work and sustainability of FPE. | en_US |
