| dc.description.abstract | Most of the economic activities undertaken by youth have frustrated them. This has resulted in rampant despair in life among the youth. Some are committing suicide, others are engaging in alcoholism, drug and substance abuse, and illegal groupings like Mungiki. Low success rate in implementation of youth income generating projects has escalated poverty, growth of social ills like alcoholism, depression and suicide. The objective of the study was to assess various factors influence on implementation of youth income generating projects. Different literature were reviewed which helped clarify, strengthen and accordingly direct each stage of research. Disproportionate stratified random sampling method was used to select the study sample. The data collection instrument was questionnaire.
The collected data was analysed by the use of statistical package for social sciences and was presented by use of tables, charts and graphs. Multiple regression analysis was performed on the data. It was established that 61 % of variation in dependent variable was explained by combined effect of independent variables. It was found that 73.3% of those who attended training courses were not engaged in project main implementing activities.
The study revealed that four fifth of all those who attended one to four training courses were not engaged in main project implementing activities, while two thirds of those who attended five and more training courses were carrying out main project implementing activities. The study found that 73.3% of the projects earning more than Ksh 5000 per week were spending below Ksh 100 per week in attracting consumers to project products, while 70.4% of the projects using monitoring and evaluation tools were earning below Ksh 1000 per week.
In view of all findings from the study and careful judgement, it was concluded that, all project managers and members be provided with comprehensive, quality and convenient training on project planning and implementation with special emphasis on business skills and project implementing activities. It was recommended that project professionals be consulted during planning and implementation phases to ensure efficiently manageable projects were formulated and implemented. | en_US |
