dc.description.abstractThe different techniques that have been used for water harvesting in Kenya and other parts of the world are described and the way in which runoff water can be used for crop growth is demonstrated. The paper also reports important factors to consider when implementing water harvesting in the field. Results of a three-year case study of water harvesting at an extension centre in Isiolo, Kenya, are presented. Results show that compared to those of normal plots, crop (sorghum, maize, grain legumes, cotton and potatoes) yields in water harvesting plots increased significantly, with some cereals recording a three-fold increase in yield.en
