The main objective of the study was to establish factors affecting effective psycho-medical management of sexual abuse cases among children and adolescent victims. The study was carried out at the Gender Violence Recovery Centre-Nairobi Women's Hospital. This was both a qualitative and quantitative study which sought to find out the extent to which financial constrains, victims' knowledge on post-abuse services and victims' satisfaction to post abuse services affect psycho-medical management of children victims of sexual abuse. The key methods of data collection employed were in-depth interviews and direct observation. As it is the case with the qualitative research paradigm, this study did not have a predetermined sample size as the major consideration in such studies is the quality of the information collected and not the number of people interviewed. Purposive sampling was employed to choose the study site. Purposive sampling was again used to draw individual respondents for the study. Data was analyzed through the use of a wide range of qualitative data analysis techniques like thematic analysis, narrative analysis, discourse analysis, constant comparative analysis and lastly through the use of contemporary computer programs like SPSS. Findings show that financial resources are an important element in effective psycho- medical management of children and adolescent victims of sexual abuse. Most parents reported that high transport cost constrained them from bringing their children for follow up services at the hospital. Findings further show that victims' satisfaction to post-abuse services plays an important role in the psycho-medical management of children and adolescent victims of sexual abuse. Most of the respondent interviewed reported that they were satisfied with the services that and that they would be willing to go back for follow up review and counseling According to the results, most parents/guardian appear to have knowledge on the post-abuse services offered at the Nairobi Women's Hospital through such channels as the medial and through community/public awareness campaigns. Though findings show that respondents had knowledge and were satisfied with the post abuse services offered at the Nairobi Women's Hospital, the study also found out that societal stigma and discrimination prevented the victims from reporting to a health facility to access post-abuse services thus the need for community awareness and sensitization on child sexual abuse. It is generally concluded that financial resources, satisfaction and knowledge on post-abuse services playa major role in effective psycho-medical management of children and adolescent victims of sexual abuse.en_US
