The study was undertaken to establish the network expansion strategies by airlines based in Kenya. This stems from the fact that a study on the importance of network expansion and strategies of the airlines based in Kenya has been missing. The research problem was therefore to answer the questions; what are the network expansion strategies used by airlines based in Kenya? What are the perceived as benefits of network expansion strategies? What are the challenges facing the Kenyan based airlines in their network expansion? To be able to derive this information, survey of airlines based in Kenya was used. This is because of the very probing nature of a survey that would help achieve the objectives of the study. The study results gave indications to the network expansion strategies, perceived benefits of network expansion and the challenges airlines face in their network expansion. The network expansion strategies were looked into as a means of expanding the existing networks and starting new routes. It was established that the choice of network expansion strategies is mainly due to the strategic intent of the airlines. In implementation, the major structures include the board, the chief executive officer, the commercial director, airlines affairs, and network planning and strategy divisions. The performance indicators on network expansion strategies have been the airline load factor, passenger traffic and seat factor. The limitations of the study include; the restrictive access to information. Some airline policy restricted free exchange of information from the respondent. This did inhibit provision of information. The confidentiality of the information was observed especially on the provision of some information. The concern of access to the information provided by competitors was also observed.en
