Using a non probability purposive sampling methodology and data analysis based on descriptiv statistics such as mean, mode, median, frequency distributions and percentages, this researc study focused on identifying the extent to which the influx of Somali refugees into Dadaab Kenya, affected the overall wellbeing of the host community in terms of benefits an constraints.
It further sought to recognize the risk and resource competition between refugee and host community in terms of social, economical and environmental aspects. It was evider that the two groups had a positive and friendly perception towards one another, as they share the same ethnic, religious and language group. Comparative analysis showed visible integratio in areas of business, trade and employment with high competition among the groups.
There is tangible progressive development in social services (water, health and education) due to th existence of the refugees in Dadaab, and a more sustainable and diversifiable source of incom and better wages in the area. However, environment degradation was significantly a subject ( concern given the prevailing unsustainable land practices resulting from influx of the refugee:
Nevertheless, it is accurate to conclude that, the presence of refugees in Dadaab area has had far greater positive impact on the wellbeing and household food security situation of the hor community.
