This paper constitutes an attempt to provide a crit ical review of the EU-Africa Dialogue. It raises two main questions: 1 To what extent is the EU as presently structured capable of championing (through its commitments) the AU/ NEPAD goal of political and ec onomic regeneration of the African continent? 2 What are the reasons for the AU commitments to Af rica? And it is structured in three parts: Part 1, provides a background to AU/NEPAD and their implications to the EU6 Africa relations, part 2 provides an introduction to EU-AU Dialogue ( Cairo summit), reasons for these commitments. And the developments ,which have taken place in the African continent since Cairo summit and part 3, is an overview of the EU c ommitments to Africa, challenges in implementation strategy, conclusion giving a brief critique of this Dialogue and attempts to provide a tentative way forward.en
