Responses by Kenya Electricity Generating Company to Changing Macro Environmental Conditions in Kenya
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the responses by Kenya Electricity Generating Company to changing macro environmental conditions in Kenya. The basis of the problem regarding the environment in which a firm operates that the research study aimed to explore is discussed based on the following research objectives:
1. To determine the response strategies KenGen has adopted to cope with changes in the macro environmental factors affecting the power industry in Kenya.
11. To establish the factors influencing the response strategies adopted by KenGen to cope with the environmental challenges.
To meet the objectives of the study, a c case study survey was chosen. The target population of the study consisted of e top and middle management positions of KenGen. A sample of six persons from the top and middle management were interviewed. Interview guides were used to collect data from the managers.
T content analysis technique was used to analyse the data. The findings emerging from the analysis were used to compile this report. The research study concludes that a company's operating environment is affected by macro environmental factors such as political changes, economic changes, technological changes, legal changes, ecological changes, social and cultural changes.
Further, the research study concludes that the government is the major constraint to response strategies adopted by KenGen to cope with the environmental changes. Other factors included competition as well as funding Recommendations based on the findings of this study propose the following measures be taken by the organization: take advantage of the chances the economy gives especially in its growth phase.
