In recent past, especially in the last three years, the business environment has experienced an upsurge in completion. Investors across industry have taken advantage of liberalized environment to demand value for their money thereby increasing competition for product and service delivery. A firm needs to carefully analyze and identify a matrix of factors that will deliver its competitive advantage position in the industry. This study set to investigate how stockbrokers in Kenya have employed the use of competitive strategies in managing their businesses over the last five years. In carrying out this study, census survey was applied given that the entire population .of stockbrokers was eighteen. The questionnaire used was designed to allow for the capture of unique characteristics of the entire population. The study revealed that the competitive strategies adopted by stock brokers in Kenya were a combination of Porter's Five Forces strategies and Generic competitive strategies like use of technology, customer centric, recruitment policies, focusing on a particular buyer group and products differentiation. The study also concludes that the factors that influenced the choice of the competitive strategies adopted by stockbrokers in Kenya were changes in NSE and CMA rules and regulations, reach of target market, product mix and cost of the strategy vise-a-vise benefit in the long term. The limitation of this study was the reluctance by the respondents to provide details on how they were responding to competition. This was viewed with suspicion and hence information was not forthcoming. The other limitation is the small number of respondents and this meant that their full participation was very critical to the success of this study.en_US
