Changes in both the internal and external environments of all organizations compel organizations to implement strategic changes and these changes require effective management. University of Washington/University of Nairobi Collaborative Mombasa Research Site was experiencing rapid rates of change, providing a fertile ground for a descriptive case study exploring the strategic change management practices and factors influencing strategic change process. Using a case study and utilizing both primary and secondary data this research study explored the strategic change management practices practiced at the site and the factors influencing the strategic change management process. The researcher used an interview guide where the research questions were grounded in the literature of strategic change management. The content of the interviews was analyzed using the conceptual content analysis method and findings presented in relation to the objectives of the study. The study findings showed that the collaborative site's top management had a clear strong vision but he did not effectively communicate and share this vision with the staff. The research site's Principal Investigator (PI) solely did the strategic planning for the change process. Both planned and emergent changes were seen at the research site. The change management process was influenced by resistance to change due to ineffective communication, non-involvement of the staff, . insecurity among staff, preferring the status quo among others. Even with all these challenges, the strategic change process seems to be moving towards realizing the strategic objectives set forth by the Principal Investigator, the leadership change agent. The PI appreciates a thorough running of the research site by a .team rather than an individual and the research site is managing its finances better than before the strategic changes and it is getting to be the international research site the PI has always envisioned it to be. The study establishes that universal strategic change management practices were used in the context of this collaborative entity and there are factors that influenced the strategic change management.
