Strategies Adopted by Small and Medium Enterprises in Nairobi Kenya to Improve Performance
Abstract
The relationship between business strategy and organizational performance has been a
subject of growing interest in the field of strategic management. Despite this trend there
has been little attention given to small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the developing
countries. Numerous researches undertaken in developed countries have very little
relevance to the developing countries because they serve in different environment. The
aim of this study is to establish the strategies adopted by the small and medium
enterprises in Nairobi Kenya to improve performance. The important of the research
cannot be overemphasized; SMEs contribute immensely to economic development and
wealth creation through employment, development of remote regions, spurring creativity
and utilizing cheap and untapped resources among others. Understanding the strategies
adopted by SMEs and how they can be planned to reach customers and the changing
environment and developing systems of controls to keep track of their performance could
go a long way in achieving a breakthrough to their successful operations. Therefore the
success of this research project is an important positive contribution to the national
economy and industrialization with the aim of achieving Kenya’s Vision 2030 blue print.
