Knowledge management is a discipline that promotes an integrated approach to the creation, capture, organization, access, and use of an enterprise's information assets and most importantly, the tacit knowledge and expertise resident in the heads of individual employees. It embodies the strategies and processes that an organization employs to identify, capture and leverage the knowledge contained within its “corporate memory.”The purpose of this study was to determine the challenges of knowledge management at Kenya Revenue Authority and methods KRA applied to deal with the identified challenges. The research focused on six factors that influence knowledge management namely, strategic alignment, people and culture, leadership, processes content and technology. Data was collected through face to face interview with KRA staff, some of whom were members of the knowledge management project team. The findings indicated that the greatest challenge was with the strategic alignment of the initiative, followed by lack of requisite skills. The KRA had appointed a project team to guide the process that was to mitigate the challenges. The study concluded that for KRA to get the most from KM they needed to integrate the initiative to their overall strategic management processes. They also needed to manage knowledge content and context in order to preserve its value. To further advance understanding of KM and how knowledge should be managed, the research recommends strategies KRA can employ to encourage knowledge sharing minimise the risks of knowledge loss.en
