dc.description.abstractThis study sought to establish the extent of application of ICT and determine its impact on financial function in commercial banks in Kenya. The objectives of the study were to evaluate the impacts of ICT adoption on cost efficiency of commercial banks operating in Kenya, to find out the major challenges experienced by banks in the adoption and implementation of ICT, and to suggest the possible measures which can be applied to minimize the challenges experienced in adoption of ICT in order to foster efficiency of the banks' operations. The study used a descriptive re~earch design to achieve these objectives. The population of the study consisted of all commercial banks in Nairobi. Purposive sampling was used to select operations manager for this study. The sample size of this study was 45 respondents. Data was obtained through self-administered questionnaires with closed and open-ended questions. Descriptive statistics such as means, standard deviation and frequency distribution were used to analyze the data. Results were presented by the use of pie charts, bar charts and graphs, percentages and frequency tables. This study found that banks have embarked on ICT to a very great extent. Database management systems, automated teller machines, system security and integrity have been emphasized in leT adoption by banks. ICT was found to be critical in service delivery and reducing congestion in banking halls. On contribution of ICT to financial services, convenience, efficiency in service delivery and improvement in service quality were found to be critical. This study recommends that further study be carried out to establish why there seem to be reluctance in adoption of ICT for electronic funds transfer. Equally, banks should device means of using ICT in improving service quality.en_US
