dc.description.abstractThe purpose of the study was to establish the influence of corporate governance practices on organizational performance in Equity bank. Equity bank currently has 122 branches within Kenya and has opened other branches in Uganda, Southern Sudan, Rwanda and Tanzania. The study was twofold, first to establish the existence of corporate governance practices within the bank and secondary establish whether there is an influence of the practices on organizational performance. Corporate governance being a set of processes, customs, policies, laws, and institutions affecting the way a company is directed, administered or controlled was a major focus out of which the practices therein would evolve. Four parameters were used to measure the organizational performance. These are; financials, growth, customer service and business processes. The financials parameter included profitability and customer deposits. Growth included both local and regional expansion and also growth in the products base and work force. Business processes involved the re-engineering of business processes due to the dynamism of the banking industry and innovation of new products. In this study, various corporate governance theories were considered and quoted. This was a case study on Equity bank. A case study was found suitable because more elaborate information is obtained using this kind of research methodology than any other. Data analysis was conducted using content analysis. Findings were presented in form of themes and subtopics describing the relationship between variables involved. The study reveals that there are actually corporate governance practices within the bank and the bank's organizational performance is influenced by corporate governance practices. As part of the recommendations, the research puts forward a need to enhance corporate governance practices to boost organizational performance. The study also recommends further research of corporate governance practices within financial institutions. The study will act as a reference point to senior management of the bank to enhance corporate governance within the institution.en_US
