| dc.description.abstract | The University of Nairobi (UoN) and the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) have entered into talks on the possibility for further collaboration.
This was revealed when the President of the University of Maryland Global Programs, Ms. Kathleen Byington, paid a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor, UoN.
The collaboration with the University of Maryland Global Partners has led to the establishment of four major projects in the Department of Clinical Medicine and Therapeutics which include the Partnership for Advanced Clinical Education (PACE) Project, the Partnership for Advanced Care and Treatment (PACT) Project, the Partnership for Advanced Care and Treatment- Centre of Excellence (PACT-CoE) and the Central Province Response Integration Strengthening and Sustainability Project (CRISSP).
According to Ms. Byington, the University of Maryland Global Partners is pleased with the support and collaboration with UoN and is looking forward to more research on infectious tropical diseases and development of broader educational programmes as well as health policies.
Already, the partnership has realized the setting up of an e-resource learning centre at the Kenyatta National Hospital Library and a state-of-the-art skills laboratory which has facilitated the practical sessions for Medicine students. Plans are underway to have the skills lab get international accreditation.
Speaking of behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. George Magoha, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic Affairs, Prof. Henry Mutoro, commended the key drivers of the partnership for their input which has seen students at the College of Health Sciences benefit. He said that the University is committed to realizing the terms of the partnership.
