dc.description.abstract | – Universities’ Academic Staff Union (UASU) and the Kenya Union of Domestic, Hotels, Educational Institutions, Hospitals and Allied (KUDHEIHA) Workers. The new CBAs have improved allowances enjoyed by members of staff ranging from passage and baggage allowances payable on first appointment and on termination of employment, transfer allowance, leave travelling allowance, hardship allowance and allowances payable to immediate family upon demise while in service (mortuary, coffin and hearse expenses). The implementation date of the CBAs is 1st January 2012.
The CBAs were signed by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. George Magoha and the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration and Finance, Prof. Peter M. F. Mbithi on behalf of the University Council and by union representatives of UASU led by its UoN Chapter, Dr. Samuel Nyandemo and KUDHEIHA Secretary General, Mr. Albert Njeru and UoN Shop steward, Mr. Kimani Mwihia.

The signing of the 2010-2012 CBA’s came four months after the University Council concluded the 2008 – 2010 CBAs with the unions in September, 2011.
Meanwhile, management has undertaken to conclude the 2010 – 2012 CBA with the Universities Non-teaching Staff Union (UNTESU) by Mid-February, 2012.
