dc.description.abstractThe MOU forecasts the establishment of a Korean Studies Centre at UoN which will allow increased interaction between students and staff from the two countries. Prof. George Magoha, Vice Chancellor, UoN, led top university staff and students in a signing ceremony that was witnessed by the Prime Minister and Prof. Margaret Kamar, Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology. In his remarks, H.E. Hwang-Sik commended the University for opening its doors to Korea through the establishment of the center. He highlighted the importance of deeper understanding of different people and their cultural heritage. To this end, the Korean Government seeks to support programmes especially in the areas of education and culture. Prof. Magoha said that a lot has been achieved through the collaboration including the overseas Korea incubation programmes, the upcoming launch of the Korean Association and the teaching staff exchange programme that commenced in the fiscal year 2011/2012. In addition, two UoN graduates are currently undertaking M.A. and Ph.D. in Korean Studies and some of the University’s staff have benefitted from the exchange programme. The minister on her part commended the Korean government for extending support to the higher education subsector especially in many areas, and assured the H.E. Hwang-Sik that the government welcomed their support. During the ceremony, staff and students were able to engage with the Prime Minister in an interactive session. In attendance, was the Ministry for Higher Education, Science and Technology, Permanent Secretary, Prof. Crispus Kiamba and Hon. Danson Mwazo, Minister of Tourism. Others were top university managers including deputy vice-chancellors, principals, registrars and student leadersen_US
