In fulfillment of Vision 2030 objectives, the College of Education and External Studies (CEES) recently launched two University of Nairobi Flagship programmes. The Masters of Distance Education (MDE) and M.A in Project Planning and Management will be done through Distance and e-Learning modes. This has been possible through the Department of Distance Studies at the School of Continuing and Distance Education in collaboration with the Centre for Open and Distance Learning and e- Learning. The launch event was graced by Prof. Peter Mbithi, Deputy Vice Chancellor, Administration and Finance who congratulated CEES on the great milestone. He highlighted the need to have such programmes which are in line with the social pillar of Vision 2030 on access to education for all Kenyans. The University is committed to developing open, distance and e- Learning materials for diversifying, enhancing and enriching its delivery mode. In his remarks, the Principal CEES, Prof. Henry Mutoro called on the different Colleges in the University to take advantage of the different technologies available and adopt open and distance learning. The MDE programme aims at providing advanced training and opportunities in distance education, exposing learners to theories and concepts of planning, developing and producing effective distance materials. In addition, the programme will provide learners with skills and knowledge necessary to critically evaluate effectiveness of different media used in open and distance education. Capacity for managing the in-service required for changing the mindset of Kenyans to cope with requirements of Vision 2030 will also be developed through the programme. The M.A in Project Planning and Management strives to provide training and opportunity in project planning and management as well as expose the learners to the concepts, principles and theories. It will also build capacity in project management for steering Kenya’s endeavours of achieving vision 2030. The event was attended by various college principals, deans, university staff members and students.en_US
