| dc.description.abstract | The University of Nairobi (UoN) and the World Bank have entered into talks on collaboration in various areas with focus on a youth partnership programme to address unemployment, food security, health issues, and water and energy stress.
This was revealed today, when the World Bank’s Lead Economist, Mr. Apurva Sanghi paid a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. George Magoha.
The youth partnership initiative, aims at pursuing complementary approaches to engaging with the youth in Kenyan universities especially fresh graduates entering the market. Through the initiative, World Bank will tap into the youth’s fresh insights and work together towards the development of Kenya and Africa. Common areas of research will be identified and proposal for funding will be developed.
Mr. Sanghi noted that the World Bank was also involved in various programmes seeking to address some of the challenges facing Kenya. He noted that the two organizations can achieve more through institutional collaboration.
In his remarks, Prof. Magoha said that the University already has in place research projects and academic programmes seeking to address these issues and is looking to actively engage the World Bank in a mutual partnership. Already, some members of the University staff are involved in various programmes funded by the World Bank.
