| dc.description.abstract | Lateral erosion in many rivers occurs on one bank while a concomitant deposition takes place on the alternate bank thus causing meandering rivers. The factors that cause this type of erosion are discussed and evaluated. A case study of the meandering reaches of the lower Tana River was also carried out in order to relate some of the factors of lateral erosion to channel morphology.
