Photosynthetic Systems As A Basis For Weed Competition
Abstract
The characteristics of the major pathways of CO2 fixation (C3 and C4) and their relevance to plant competition in E. Africa is discussed. Most of the C3 species are found in the highlands whereas the C4 species are restricted to low altitudes. The latter show a combination of high photosynthetic capacity and efficient water utilization which may be especially important in many parts of E. Africa having short periods of rainfall.
