Control of Dc Motor using four quadrant converter
Abstract
For a separately excited Permanent Magnet DC motor, the speed can be controlled by a
chopper. The chopper used in this case is a four quadrant converter. The implementation of the
four quadrant operation is done by a buck converter. The chopper receives the signal from the
DSP and gives rise to variable voltage to the armature ofthe DC motor resulting in the desired
speed. The DSP is used as the microcontroller. The separately excited permanent magnet DC
motor is designed and then mode led on PSIM and MATLAB, then the complete DC drive system
including the buck converter, DSP, frequency to voltage converter is obtained. The DC drive
system is simulated using PSIM. Analysis ofthe simulation is done. The system is then
implemented practically and the practical results compared with the simulation results.
