The Family «geraniaceae» In North-east Tropical Africa
Abstract
Although the species of this family are all small herbs which are very rare, this paper has brought to light the most up-to-date information about the family in the Horn of Africa. The flora area is an interesting one since it harbours some typical African species and also some European or Asian species. A few of the unique species to be mentioned are like Geranium biuncinatum, a new species confined to the flora area and the neighbouring states of Sudan and Yemen; Monsonia uniflora which is confined only to the Somali Republic; a recently described new species of Pelargonium christophoranum which is also confined to the Somali Republic; and Pelargonium hararense, a species which is apparently confined to Harar Province of Ethiopia. A few specimens could not be fully determined due to insufficient material.
