A generalized financial model for analyzing the operations of an electric utility in a developing country has been developed. It demonstrates the application of microcomputers for management control, operational analysis, and general planning. The model, developed using dBASE II and dBASE III languages, is flexible and applicable to a wide variety of situations with minor modifications. The model's uniqueness derives from its application as a financial control tool and its utilization as a database for analytical and operational information processing. It simulates, updates anf forecasts the financial operations of the electric utility, taking into account past, present and future costs for generation, transmission and distribution of energy. It also reflects tax rates and surcharge levels, depreciation, revenue income, capital investments, and finance schedules.en_US
