This paper discusses the impact of weather and climate hazards on the lives of the rural people living near Lake Victoria, Africa, thereby worsening their already desperate condition, and suggest ways of mitigating these hazards. The establishment of village institutions to take a leading role in mitigation of weather related hazards, and increase and sustain food productivity are some of the strategies suggested.en_US
