Speaking to students, the Vice-Chancellor wished them quick recovery even as they undergo treatment at the Students Health Services, popularly known as Sick Bay.
Currently, 7 students are at the sick bay and 10 students are hospitalised in Kenyatta National Hospital. The number has drastically gone down from the original 25 students who were hospitalised following the blast of the faulty underground electrical cables. More than half of the students have recovered and has since been discharged.
The number of students admitted at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) now stands at ten, three of whom were undergoing surgery at Kenyatta National Hospital today while the rest are recovering.
According to the Chief Medical Officer, Dr. M. R. B Otieno, all students are in stable condition and recovering well.
Among the recommendations made by the Vice-Chancellor during his visit to the student clinic included refurbishment of the health facility, increased security of the vicinity and buying of more beds to accommodate those being released from Kenyatta National Hospital.
Prof. Mbithi commended the University health professionals for rising to the occasion to deal with the challenges of Garrissa attack and the Kikuyu Campus incident. He noted that “The University is resilient to absorb shock and make quick decisions. We have the capacity to manage stress.”
Prof. Isaac Jumba , Principal, College of Education and External Studies, noted that the situation at Kikuyu Campus is coming back to normalcy following the incident. Together with Dean of Students, Father Dr. Domnic Wamugunda, they applauded students for their good behaviour during the incident and thereafter.
