The role of stakeholders in development of education has been analyzed by a number of studies. The international literature stresses the need of involving relevant stakeholders in education management and development in order to achieve the Millennium Development Goals in the social, political and economic sector. In Kenya, the last three decades have seen major transformation in education. More than ten reviews by special commissions and working parties have been done. The commissions have key concerns on access, participation, equity, quality and relevance. Therefore the influence of parent's participation in school activities on student's academic performance in public secondary schools in Busia municipality will contribute to the studies already done earlier. Government support through C.D.F and KESSP contribute to the development of education in Busia Municipality. In this study, Kenyan educational policies were looked at in relation to influence of parents participation in school activities on student's academic performance. Independent variables in the study were parent's participation in financial support, guidance and counseling and school infrastructure development. Dependent variable was student academic performance. The target population was secondary schools, headteachers, students and parents in Busia Municipality. The purpose of this study was to establish influence of parent's participation in school activities on student's academic performance in public secondary schools in Busia Municipality. The main objectives are to assess how parents financial support in secondary school activities influence student's academic performance, to examine how guidance and counseling services offered by parents influence student's academic performance and to establish parents participation in school infrastructure development. Descriptive design was used. Major findings revealed that financial support by parents played a big role in enhancing better academic performance. Schools that were well financed performed better as they accessed vital facilities for learning. Results on the involvement of parents in student's academic performance indicated that parents were majorly involved through P.T.A projects as well as through attendance of AGMs which helped plan for improvement of the schools. However it emerged that most of the parents were not support of school programmes and this negatively affected performance. Itemerged that cross-border business in Busia Municipality had both positive and negative effects, with negative outweighing the positive ones. Recommendations based on the findings and conclusions include need for schools to organize more academic days which are mandatory for all parents to enhance parent's participation. Stakeholders should increase public awareness on the need for parents to be financially supportive to enhance good performance; schools in Busia Municipality should beef up their guiding and counseling departments to guide students on the importance of maintaining high moral standards and the need to excel in their academics. Last but not least, the cross-border business plays a crucial role in economic development in the area. However, it has many other detrimental effects such as prostitution and drug abuse. There's need for more campaigns in the area on the prevention on HIV/AIDS.en_US
