| dc.description.abstract | KOREAN STUDIES is now in Kenya. It is offered only at the University of Nairobi. This programme, which is housed in Department of Linguistics and Languages, takes a multi disciplinary approach with the aim of opening career options for students who wish to major in Korean language as well as those who wish to take courses on KOREAN STUDIES from a number of departments within the Faculty of Arts and the School of Economics.
Registration is open to all who wish to undertake:
a B.A. degree in Korean Studies
a Certificate course in Korean Language, Literature and Culture

Students who excel in KOREAN STUDIES will have the opportunity to go to Korea for:
Exchange study visits
Further studies (scholarships will be sourced for students who excel)
At the moment, three students are in Korea, having obtained scholarships to study in Korean Universities through the KOREAN STUDIES PROJECT at the University of Nairobi. Five students and a number of members of staff at the University have participated in exchange programmes to Korea.
It is noted that Kenya is strengthening ties with countries in the East. Korea is one of these countries. It is especially influential in the areas of science and technology as seen globally and in some of their companies in Kenya. Those who take KOREAN STUDIES will do their attachment in these companies.
The courses offered this semester for the 1st Year students who wish to take a B. A. in Korean Studies are:
CKR 101: Basic Korean Language Skills (45 hours)
CKR 103: Korean Cultural Heritage Tourism (45 hours)
The courses offered this semester for the Certificate Course in Korean Language, Literature and Culture are:
CKR001: Oral Expressions and Aural Comprehension (45 hours)
CKR 002: Basic Korean Grammar (45 hours)
CKR 003: Introduction to Korean Writing Systems (45 hours)
CKR 004: Introduction to Korean Culture and Literature (45 hours)
