Influence of seedling age and nitrogen application method on dry matter production and nitrogen uptake of lowland rice cultivated on an Alfisol.
Abstract
In a field experiment during the long and short rainy seasons in 1987 at Ibadan, Nigeria, rice cv. IITA 212 DM production was not affected by transplanting 21-, 31- or 41-d-old seedlings. Placement of 60 kg N/ha at 5-10 cm depth 5 d after transplanting gave the highest DM and plant N content compared with split application, top dressing (at panicle initiation) or basal application (broadcast).
