In a survey of tumours occurring in cattle at the Kenya Meat Commission, Athi River Abattoir, twenty-five tumours were examined for viruses. Eight of ten tumours from the urinary bladder and one of ten tumours from the rumen yielded herpes-type virus particles which produced a cytopathic effect in bovine embryonic testis and kidney monolayers. No virus particles were observed with the electron microscope and no cytopathic effect was produced in tissue cultures from the five squamous cell carcinomata of the vulva so far investigated. The oncogenic property of the isolates is being investigated.en_US
