With the aid of the electron microscope, virions were seen in biopsy samples, scabs and skin scrapings obtained from a horse with a skin condition which resembled viral papular dermatitis. Similar virus particles were observed in calf kidney monolayers which were inoculated with supernatant fluid prepared from specimens. The virus seen was morphologically similar to vaccinia virus.en_US
