This study investigated the factors affecting the effectiveness of HIV I AIDS behavior change campaigns among the Duruma youths in Kinango District. The study had three specific objectives: to find out the level of HIV I AIDS awareness in the district; identify the types of campaigns used in the fight against the scourge and the factors at influence the success of HIV I AIDS behavior change campaigns This study found out that mass media plays a big role in information dissemination on HIV/AIDS to the youths as just as the interpersonal communication. Primary data was collected using questionnaires from a sample size of 100 youths. Collected primary data was entered in Ms Excel Spreadsheet and analyzed descriptively and the results presented using tables and graphs. The results revealed that there is a high level of HIV I AIDS awareness among the youths in the district. The study also found that there is no single factor that negatively influences the HIV I AIDS behaviour change campaigns. There exists a cocktail of factors - economic, cultural, social, and communicative among others that influence behavior change. Also, the study found out that most youths did not know that sharing of contaminated needles is one method of transmitting the disease. The study has shown low transition rates from secondary education to post secondary Institutions where most youths don't go past secondary level. This is a social problem that affects efforts to curb the disease. Finally the study makes some recommendations to address the challenges identified. It recommends that microfinance organizations should be encouraged to help the youths venture into small businesses and also scale up campaigns against stigma. Further individual research should also be conducted on the factors affecting behavior change campaigns on HIV / AIDS where specific recommendations will be drawn on the economic, social, cultural and communication factors .en_US
