This research paper contains results on the study carried out on the jurisdiction of the East African Court of Justice and its effectiveness in promoting the objectives of the East African Community. It provides an in depth analysis of the East African Community and its objectives and dwells on the East African Court of Justice as one of the organs of the Community.
The study is based on an analysis of various treaties, written works and case law. It concludes that the East African Court of Justice does not have sufficient jurisdiction to assist the Community in achieving the objectives set out in the Treaty. The findings are that there is a need to enhance the jurisdiction of the East African Court of Justice and to overhaul its structure to attain the effectiveness required to promote the economic integration and development of the East African Community.
