Prof Mitullah contributes chapter in book on urban policy
Abstract
Prof Winnie Mitullah has contributed a chapter in a book on urban policy entitled, Cities and Partnerships for Sustainable Urban Development.In the 16-chapter volume, the contributors discuss, in detail, topics surrounding measurement, growth strategy, citizen participation, revitalization, and competitiveness in 15 cities in Asia, Africa, Europe and North America. The book contains substantive discussions of the history, theory, methodology and practice of local and regional development.Prof Mitullah’s chapter is entitled “Political Engagement Deficit in Sustainable Competitiveness of Cities in East Africa. The Chapter examines political engagement and sustainable governance of cities in East Africa using selected participation variables from Afrobarometer citizen’s perceptions survey data of 2011.The chapter frames issues of sustainable development in cities, highlighting issues of sustainability and governance and related political participation. It focuses on key factors which inform political participation. The book is edited by Peter Karl Kresl, Charles P. Vaughan Professor of Economics (Emeritus), Bucknell University, US and President, Global Urban Competitiveness Project. It is published by Edward Elgar publishing Limited, in 2015.
