dc.description.abstractThe University of Nairobi has emerged among the top 900 universities in the world.This is according to the 2015 QS World University’s ranking. The new ranking places the University of Nairobi at position 701 out of 891 institutions ranked.Massachusetts Institute of Technology was ranked as World’s top university while Harvard University emerged second.The University of Nairobi is the only Kenyan institution among the top 900 universities in the World. The University of Cape Town was best in Africa, having been ranked at position 171. Basing on research contributions from universities, the ranking data is compiled by the QS Intelligence Unit in consultation with an advisory board of leading academics.Six indicators are used to come up with the rankings including: Academic reputation (40 per cent), employer reputation (10 per cent), faculty-student ratio (20 per cent), citations per faculty (20 per cent), international students (five per cent) and international faculty (five per cent).
