dc.description.abstractBarclays Bank of Kenya launched the Ready to Work programme at the University of Nairobi on 30th October, 2015. The programme is a free online platform that offers a curriculum for certificate courses that will impart skills required in the job market, key among them; People, Work, Entrepreneurial and Money skills. The programme targets students in institutions of higher learning preparing them to join the job market. It attracted over 200 students from the various colleges of the university.The Managing Director Barclays Bank of Kenya, Mr. Jeremy Awori who presided the event emphasized on the important role the Ready to Work programme will play in preparing student to the job market. In his speech, he noted that the programme will provide a platform for students to acquire competitive skills that will give them an edge in the job market. The programme also includes resources that can help professionals who want to better their careers. Mr. Awori gave a brief demonstration on how the platform works and encouraged students to sign up for the programme. Students can access the portal through: https://readytowork.barclays/. The Vice Chancellors speech was read by Prof. Isaac Mbeche, Deputy Vice Chancellor Students Affairs. In his speech, the Vice Chancellor expressed his honor of hosting the launch. He said that the programme would help students get skills that are important to their career development as well as personal growth. He concluded by assuring students of the University’s commitment to providing resources and knowledge to ensure that students graduating from the University of Nairobi are highly regarded both regionally and globally. The event also included a mentorship session conducted by staff from Barclays Bank Kenya.
