The Effect of Financial Literacy on Personal Investment Decisions Amongst Employees of Seventh Day Adventist Church in Kenya
Abstract
The study assessed the effect of financial literacy on personal investment decisions amongst
church employees of SDA church in kenya. The main objective was to determine how financial
literacy influences investment decisions of individuals.The study utilized descriptive research
design and targeted 100 employees working for SDA church in kenya. A self administered
questionnaire was given to the respondents to answer multiple choice questions and likert scale
questions. The first part covered demographic variables and part two covered financial literacy
factors. The last part covered investment decision making on a five likert-scale. The data
collected was analysed using SPSS programme and presented on tables,figures and
percentages.The study found that a high percentage of staff considers financial concepts such as
returns,investment risks,holding periods, trends in interest rates among others in making
investment decisions. The results further indicated financial literacy has a strong positive
relationship with investment decision making. The researcher thus recommends information to
be availed through educational sessions so as to equip individuals with requisite skills essential for effective financial decision making.
