An Investigation Into The Maintenance Policies Of Historic Buildings In Nairobi

Abstract

Maintenance of historic buildings and monuments is an important part of their conservation, which is in turn, of great significance to the preservation of a nations cultural heritage. This study is thus an evaluation of the maintenance procedures that historic buildings are subjected to in order that their eventual conservation may be realized, it also looks at the government policy towards the mintenance and conservation of historic buildings and monuments. The study is presented in four chapters. The first chapter consists of a general introduction to the study and formulation and identification of the problem. The second chapter is a presenation of reviewed literature which concerns issues relating to maintenance and conservation. The third chapter deals with the field findings, analysis and presentation of data collected. The analysis of data is in a descriptive form and where data is quantifiable, use of tables has been employed. The final chapter is devoted to conclusions drawn by the study, and recommendations suggesting further areas of research.
