| dc.description.abstract | This study sought to establish the effect of husband's educational attainment on woman's contraceptive use in Kenya. Data was obtained from the couple file of 2008-2009 KDHS The unit of analysis is the couple. The main methods of data analysis were descriptive statistics and logistic regression. The dependent variable was contraceptive use while the key independent variables were educational attainment of both the husband and the wife. Other control variables included were; birth order, knowledge of modern method of contraception, discussion of family planning, place of residence and region of residence.
The results of the bivariate analysis showed that both husband's and wife's educational attainment were significantly associated with modem contraceptive use in Kenya. They also showed that type of place of residence, region of residence, religion, birth order, and discussion about family planning are significant. The results of logistic regression analysis showed that both the husband's and wife's education were significant in adoption of modem contraception compared. When you control for socio-economic and demographic factors, the effect of husband's and wife's educational attainment on modem contraceptive use seizes to be significant. However birth order, region of residence, religion and discussion about family planning show they are significant.
The study implications are that policies and programmes to increase contraceptive use should not ignore the contribution of husband's education to adoption of modem contraceptive use. Policies and programmes on family planning should also consider region of residence, religion and birth order and discussion of family planning as important factors in adoption of modem methods of contraception. | en_US |
