Shares Performance Evaluation in Kenya: a Decision Support System Approach

Abstract

The share market is a complex and tedious investment avenue. It takes diligence, financial muscle, time and high level of dedication to wade through the murky waters of the share market and fully benefit from the same. This has resulted in minimal participation of individual and small scale institutions. Currently in Kenya only well-established institutions and highly sophisticated investors are active and benefit from the share market because they have the resources required to mine, evaluate huge data and monitor the day to day activities of the share market in order to make wise decisions on what shares to invest in. This begs the question, what happens to potential individual and small scale investors? The objective of this study was to design and develop a shares evaluation prototype system which will hopefully bridge this disparity by providing an easy, simple, straightforward and cost effective way to evaluate shares performance. The outcome was a DSS shares evaluation system prototype that aids in easy decision making for both potential and existing investors in the share market. The prototype was evaluated by conducting a survey on users who used the prototype. The users were requested to rate the prototype based on the following parameters: satisfaction, ease of use, ease of learning and usefulness. The positive feedback received from the survey was an acclamation that the prototype was useful and a welcomed relief.
