Case Studies Of Site And Services Schemes In Kenya
Abstract
During 1979 the Housing Research and Development Unit
evaluated the Site and Services programme of the Ministry
of Housing and Social Services* in Kenya. The site and
service programme is aimed to provide housing for the
population which earns less than KShs.1200/- per month
(160 US $). In this study 15 site and services schemes
out'of the 72 initiated site and services schemes are
studied in more detail. From the selected schemes project
data costs, house type plans and site layouts are presented
in a comparable standardised format. A summary of the
field survey interviews with allottees and tenants has also
been included. Where schemes are occupied, various photographs
have been included to illustrate the visual aspects
of the schemes.
