The study concluded that various governance practices that related to financial support to the teachers, recognition of teachers by the Board and provision of conducive working conditions, by the Board of Management that influenced the teachers’ teachers’ motivation. It was found out that the Boards’ governance practices had far-reaching effects on teachers’ teachers’ motivation. From the study, the recommendations were as follows; Boards of Management in West Pokot Sub-County should build more staff houses in order to house most of the teachers within the schools. This would alleviate the problem of teachers commuting from far flung areas outside the Divisions. Most of the commuting teachers were already tired by the time they reached their working stations thus having low motivation to work hard. The study also recommends that the Board of Management in West Pokot Sub-County should develop and nurture a cordial working relationship with the area teachers in order to improve their teachers’ motivation. This would in effect result in better performance by the teachers in both the formative and summative examinations. Consultations should be applied especially when dealing with the form one teachers entry behavior and setting subject/ school targets. The area school Boards should also device a mechanism of rewarding both the teachers and the teachers whenever they register good grades in the KCPE in order to ensure competitive spirit across the whole region’s primary schools.en_US
