Essential oils from six Lippia species (fam. Verbenaceae), namely Lippia javanica (Burm f.) Spreng., L. dauensis (Chiov.) Chiov., L. carviodora Meikle, L. carviodora var. minor Meikle, L. qrandifolia Mart & Schau., and L. wilmsii H. H. W. Pearson, have been analysed by GC and GC-MS. Myrcenone, cis« and trans- ocimenone have been found to be the major constituents of essential oil of L. Javanica.)3-0cimene, cis-tagetone and 2-methyl-6-methylene oct-7-en-4- one are major compounds of L. dauensis oil. L. carviodora var. minor oil consists primarily of sesquiterpene hydrocarbons, p-cubenene being the major constituent.
