dc.description.abstract | Basal and stimulated (maximal and peak) gastric acid secretion pattern was determined in the Kenyan Africans with (a) benign gastric ulcer, (b) benign gastric and duodenal ulcer and (c) normal controls. There was no statistical significant difference between the mean basal, maximal and peak acid outputs in patients with benign gastric ulcer as compared to normal control, while the mean maximal and mean peak acid outputs in patients with both benign gastric and duodenal ulcers were significantly higher than that of normal controls, although there was significant overlap in the-values. It can be concluded that the gastric acid secretion pattern in Kenyan Africans with benign gastric ulcer or those with both gastric and duodenal ulcer as compared to normal controls are not different from that in the caucaslans. Gastric acid secretion studies have no significant diagnostic role in casu of henign gastric ulcer. | en |
