Benign positional vertigo and hyperuricaemia.
Abstract
To find out if there is any association between serum uric acid level and positional vertigo.
A prospective, case controlled study.
A private neurological clinic.
All patients presenting with vertigo.
Ninety patients were seen in this period with 78 males and 19 females. Mean age was 47 +/- 3 years (at 95% confidence level) with a standard deviation of 12.4. Their mean uric acid level was 442 +/- 16 (at 95% confidence level) with a standard deviation of 79.6 umol/l as compared to 291 +/- 17 (at 95% confidence level) with a standard deviation of 79.7 umol/l in the control group. The P-value was less than 0.001.
That there is a significant association between high uric acid and benign positional vertigo.
