dc.description.abstractThis study was conducted in Central Division of Kitui District Kenya. The main purpose of this study was to investigate the level of Job Satisfaction among Public Primary School headteac hers. The theoretical basis for the study was drawn from four theories, the two factor theory, needs hierarchy theory, equity theory and expectancy theory. The population of the study was made up of all public primary schools in Central Division of Kitui District. Data was collected from all the fifty schools in the sample. The sample comprised of fifty (50) headteachers. One research instrument was used to collect data. This was questionnaire for headteachers. It was then tabulated and analysed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). Descriptive statistics such as percentages, frequencies and chi-square were used to present the data. The results revealed that the headteachers were dissatisfied with some of the job factors. They were dissatisfied with poor method of promotion and lack of opportunities for career advancement, poor remuneration, unsatisfactory working conditions, insecurity in the job and lack of recognition. In the light of the findings, the following recommendations were made . •:. The salary level of headteachers should be raised above that of the assistant teachers to avoid demotivation . •:. There is need to put in place, good rewards system to reward good performance. v .:. Train school headteachers in management and administration .:. Provide opportunities for career development by sponsoring some headteachers for further studies and giving study leaves.en
