The purpose of the study was to investigate the challenges faced by administrators in implementing HIV/AIDS curriculum in secondary schools in Central Division of Machakos District. Seven research questions were formulated to guide the study. The study applied the descriptive survey research; data was gathered by use of questionnaires. Findings revealed that schools did not have adequate strategies put in place for the implem~tation of the HIV I AIDS curriculum. It was also revealed that teachers held other responsibilities which hindered them from effectively teaching AIDS education. The study found out that all the respondents had a positive attitude towards the HIV I AIDS curriculum. It was also found out that schools did not have adequate teaching and learning resources in place for the implementation of the programme. Based on the above findings it was concluded that schools in Central Division of Machakos District were not prepared for th~ HIV! AIDS curriculum. This included teachers and headteachers not been trained for the implementation of the programme. This could be a major hindrance in the proper implementation of the HIV I AIDS programme schools. The study also revealed that schools did not have adequate teaching and leaning resources. This included some schools not having the syllabus which is a very essential component of teaching and learning. The study points for a need to have the basic elements put in place such as availing the necessary resources needed for the implementation of the programme. Based on the above findings it was recommended that the government through the Ministry of Education should put in place the necessary strategies for the implementation ofthe HIV / AIDS curriculum in schools. This should inc1ude:- • training the teachers' who are the curriculum implementers; • that the government through the Kenya Institute of Education should suggest and avail the necessary teaching and learning materials for easier implementation of the curriculum; • that schools should create a conducive atmosphere where the students are open to accept the curriculum. The study suggested that a study on Impact of HIV / AIDS on performance should be conducted.en
