dc.description.abstract | This study was aimed at investigating the factors influencing the enrolment and completion rates in public secondary schools in Rigoma Division of Kisii North District. The rate of Form One enrolment and the corresponding Form Four completion rates posed a serious concern, as they were low. This study therefore was meant to find out the factors behind this concern.
The sample size was a target of 26 Public Secondary School respondents in Rigoma Division. The data collected was by administering two sets of questionnaires for all the head-teachers and Form One and Form Four class-teachers of the sample schools.
Using statistical package for social sciences (SPSS) analysis, the data analyzed was presented.
This study's analysis of data indicated that there are a number of factors which influence enrolment and completion rates in Rigoma Division. Among them the major factors include:
• High poverty levels.
• Lack of ability to pay school fees.
• Socio-cultural factors.
• Poor attitudes towards secondary education.
• Inadequate learning facilities
Others are:
• Unpopular curriculum.
• Government educational policies. | en |
