dc.description.abstracthis study sought to find out the impact of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) on Education of Public Primary Schools Girls in Kinale and Kamae Locations, Kiambu District. The researcher sought to find out among the following: the extent to which FGM has contributed to drop outs of learners; the extent to which FGM has contributed to early marriages of learners; the extent to which FGM has affected performance of learners; the extent to which FGM has contributed to early sexual activity of learners; the extent to which FGM has contributed to unwanted pregnancies and the extent to which FGM has contributed to loss of lives of learners. . AIR08. EAST AfRICANA COLLECT/O . The study used the literature review obtained from past and related studies on the topic such as the instances of FGM, the contribution of FGM to learning and the effects of FGM on learners such as deaths, drop outs, infection and psycho-social effects. The research used the ex-post Jactor approach in the study. The researcher did not have any influence or manipulation on the re?pondents and hence all the information or data collected was based on their elicited responses ..in the research instruments. The researcher used three questionnaires for teachers, headteachers and pupils. The study concluded that FGM was-still taking place in the community around the school and that there was a significant drop out of girls from school due to the aftermath of the FGM practice. The study also concludes that most of the drop outs are led to marriage or to look for work The study also found out that FGM had led to a decline m-pe.f-fonnance mainly due to the effect of FGM on the social, emotional and psychological faculties of the girls. FGM is also associated with unwanted pregnancies since girls start engaging in sexual activities due to the feeling of being grown after FGM. This leads to school drop out. Some girls had also lost their lives during FGM, during the recovery period and others while giving birth. The study recommends that there is need to put up proper policies to ensure that FGM is curbed and that there was need to get a proper form or rite of passage involving the parents, church, CBO's, NGO's and the entire community at large. In a nutshell, the study recommends that sex education should be given prominence in schools and should involve teachers, parents and girls so as to create the best avenues to guide them in the educational process. The study finally gave suggestions for further study.en
